The Respironics BiPAP Auto SV Advanced Machine with heated humidifier is specifically designed to be the best choice for managing complicated sleep-disordered breathing patients. It combines a number of technologies to recognize and react to changing pressure needs, and it's clinically proven to treat obstructive, central and complex apneas and hypopneas, as well as periodic breathing, such as Cheyne-Stokes respiration.

How the BiPAP Auto SV Works:
The BiPAP Auto SV Advanced sleep therapy system delivers optimal therapy for complicated sleep-disordered breathing patients utilizing a multilevel algorithm. On a breath-by-breath basis, the revolutionary algorithm uses Digital Auto-Trak Sensitivity to change pressure support, when necessary, to maintain a stable breathing pattern. In addition to this breath-by-breath adjustment of pressure support, the BiPAP Auto SV algorithm also calculates the patient's spontaneous breathing rate and can automatically trigger a breath should the patient have a central apnea event. This algorithm rapidly helps normalize respiration and return the pressure to the minimum required therapy pressure once ventilation has been normalized.

Types of Sleep Apnea Treated:
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
OSA is the absence of airflow due to an occlusion in the upper airway that lasts at least 10 seconds in spite of continual effort to breathe. Severity is measured by the Apnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI) - the number of episodes per hour of sleep.
Central Sleep Apnea
Central Sleep Apnea is a pattern of breathing characterized by a normal deep inspiratory cycle interchanged with complete cessation of breathing. It is typically caused by problems with how the brain controls breathing rather than an occlusion of the airway.
Complex Sleep Apnea
Complex sleep apnea is a condition that occurs when a patient is identified as having OSA, but with the application of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) to eliminate the OSA, the patient develops Central Sleep Apnea. The cause of complex sleep apnea is not known at this time.

I have had this machine for about 2 months and I am totally satisfied with it. Since the first night of use, I have been 100% compliant and my complex sleep apnea has been eliminated. I am sleeping through the night and getting Stage 4 sleep for the first time in years--the first step in a comprehensive pain management program. I have less pain, less daytime drowsiness, have stopped taking daily naps, and am able to stay awake for a full 16 hours. Most important, I wake up fully refreshed and ready to face the day. I don't like the looks of this machine much, but I can't argue with its algorithms. Remember, though, the machine will only be as good as your mask--if your mask leaks, the machine will be loud and you will not sleep through the night. Research masks carefully before you select and don't let someone else select a mask for you. You known how you move during sleep better than anyone else. You do NOT have to give up side-sleeping to use a cpap machine, but you will need to have the right mask.

This machine is all I need. This machine is a great price for the technology it comes with. Seriously, struggling with Obstructive and Central Sleep Apnea has been a battle for me. Now I feel like a brand new person. Thanks Respironics!

I have used my Bipap Plus for over five years. I do not sleep if I don't use it. My body is so used to it and i feel so much better since using it. I would not ever sleep with out it. It has improved my life tremendiously.

It started off as a good machine but it started to have problems after about 2 years of use. It creates, what I call a skip or tapping. after about 5-7 hours of use it starts to have skips in the preasue that wake me up.

Totally worthless. I am actually very fortunate this machine didn't kill me. When I went through my sleep study, I never slept better in my life. The next day I felt like Heaven on earth. I'm diagnosed with Complex Sleep Apnea so the doctor prescribes this monstrosity. I pick it up at the warehouse... and the first night I had to stay awake the entire night. If I ever nodded off for a split second it immediately shut off my air supply... and just to get air out of it at all I had to consciously inhale. The second night two hours in I accidentally fell asleep. This cut off my air entirely and I went into asthmatic arrest. Thank God for Epi-pens and albuterol. I don't have a clue why someone would even give anyone a machine this expensive and not at least test it on them to see if it worked. If they had let me try it at the warehouse I wouldn't have even taken it home. I knew as soon as I got home and turned it on that it worked NOTHING like the machines that were used on me at the sleep lab. Don't expect any help or answers if you call Phillips and ask their customer care line about the device. They wouldn't answer any questions. They wouldn't even take my number and have someone call me back. ZERO is my actual rating but it forces me to give a one.
