CPAP Supply USA's Memorial Day

Dorsett Randolph Shipman was born in 1924 to Nathan and Nettie Shipman in Henrico County, Va. Growing up, Dorsett, along with his brothers helped out on the family farm until he found work in the private sector. On January 2, 1943 Dorsett Shipman enlisted into the Unites States Army, entering World War II. He became a waist gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, based in England, and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

This year, CPAP Supply USA honors Staff Sergeant Shipman for his dedicated service and sacrifice to our country which upheld the freedoms and liberties that we hold so dear.

On March 14, 1945, in Kessel, Germany, Staff Sergeant Shipman was on his 35th and final mission. He was serving with crew not as seasoned as himself. His plane was struck by another plane above theirs killing all but one soldier. The surviving soldier came to visit Staff Sergeant Shipman’s mother when he returned home. The family has never forgotten that visit or how he continued to keep in touch with them. Staff Sergeant Shipman’s brother, Tom, was serving in England at the time of his brother's death. Tom contacted his mother via letter to inform her of the tragic circumstances that had killed his brother, her son. His letter arrived before the army's official notification. Staff Sergeant Shipman's great nephew still has that letter today as part of the family library. Staff Sergeant Shipman had three brothers who continued to serve during World War II, after their brother's death.

At the age of 21, Staff Sergeant Shipman was laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Va. For his valiant service, he was awarded the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters, the Purple Heart and his unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. Staff Sergeant Shipman lost his life for our country, he never had the opportunity to marry, have children, or return home. We take this opportunity to thank him, his family of servicemen, and all of our military heroes who put their lives on the line so that we may live in freedom.

CPAP Supply USA is proud to honor Staff Sergeant Dorsett Randoph Shipman, the great uncle of our very own Bill Allen.
