    mask question

I was just recently diagnosed w/ sleep apnea and have been using my cpap machine for 3 weeks now. My pressure is set at 11 and I use a mask that just covers my nose and then Ts up onto my forehead. I have a small nose so that was the only one they had available at my home health place but she assured me that this was the best option to start out with and when I come back in 6 mos will have other options for me. But my question is I'm a side sleeper (and yes still have sleep apnea on my side) so when I'm sleeping on my side I have a tendency to push on my cheek and forehead w/ the pillow so much that I leave a big indention on my forehead and it creates leaks around my nose. I have tightened the headgear up but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there a different mask that's better for side sleeping?

    Re: mask question

Thank you for contacting CPAP SUPPLY USA.COM

When you begin wearing a CPAP, all efforts should be made to get you as comfortable as possible.  Comfort may determine if you will continue to wear your CPAP or not.  There are many, many types of masks and pillow systems.  You may want to try a nasal pillow system such as the Resmed Swift L/T and the Fischer and Paykel Opus.  These are both very comfortable for side sleepers and eliminate all the straps across your face and forehead.

Also there are special pillows that allow you to turn on your side for better sleep with your mask.

Please take a look at our website, www.cpapsupplyusa.com to see just how many options you have.

Also, I invite you to call me so that we can discuss further. I also would go back to your homecare provider.  You should not have to wait 6 months nor should you be limited to just one choice in CPAP masks.

PLease let me know how we can help you
