    Full-face mask and beards

    If money were no object...

Is there a full-face mask out there anywhere that will perform better than the ResMed Quattro and Fisher-Paytel FlexFit 432 in providing a seal without sliding into one's mouth -- without 1) digging into the bridge of one's nose so deep that it almost cuts the skin, and 2) having to make straps so tight they leave indentations in the cheeks for half a day? Oh, and one that's quiet?

In the past year, I've been on 6 CPAP masks -- two nasal pillow types, three full-face types, and one hybrid (which went to the recycle bin after 3rd night) -- and not one has helped provide a decent night.

My CPAP's set at 10, it has a humidifier; I have a "Hozer" to reduce the constant uncoupling whenever I rolled over; I can provide a whole lot more about my (overnight in sleep lab) diagnosis if needed.

    Help!

Thank you for contacting CPAP SUPPLY USA.COM.

As a respiratory therapist that works with CPAP users everyday that suffer from your problem, I can tell you are not alone.  It appears that you have tried everything available on the market.  I commend you for sticking with it.  I too am constantly looking for solutions.

At CPAP SUPPLY USA.COM we are fortunate that we get in the latest developments for CPAP users.  Recently Respironics put out a new full face mask or total face mask, called the Life Fit. Initially, my thoughts were this will never work, but then I tried it on 2 of my most difficult patients.  They instantly liked it.  No more pain on the bridge on the nose, no painful straps, no leaks, no difficulty getting the mask to seal. Please take a look at this on our website under full face masks.  The Fit Life is rather expensive, but finally a good  healthy night's sleep without pain is well worth it.  I would suggest the large size.  I would caution you that this mask can cause drying of the eyes, so I would also not recommend this if you have other eye problems as well.

Please take a serious look at this  and contact us again and let me know if you decide to try this.  i hope this will be the solution you are looking for.

Thanks so much for the sage advice! I will definitely check it out, but the "dry eyes" likelihood may be a problem. I will also mention your suggestion to my "sleep specialist-physician" next week to get his reaction/input. Believe me: price is secondary to sleep right now...

    Regards, Mike

    Re: Full-face mask and beards

Again, thanks for the suggestion! At yesterday's appointment, I brought a printout (from Respironics website) of the new FitLife full-face mask, and my physician had a therapist locate the ONE sample mask they'd received the day before! It was given to me as a one-night loaner. The more I read about it, the more I wanted it -- it DID seem like the solution. Unfortunately, it didn't work as billed -- at least not for me. Guess the shape of my head's to blame more than anything else. If Respironics made it in three sizes rather than two (small and large), maybe...
