    allergy to silicone

My husband needs a full face mask.  Since 99.9% of masks are made with silicone, most masks burn his face.  The only mask he can safely wear is the Respironics Spectrum Full Face Mask, size M.  His respiratory supplier says that this mask is off the market.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!

I too really need a full face mask, but have been unable to find one that does not burn my face.  I have been told by my respiratory therapist " she doesn't understand why I have this problem, since the masks are made of food grade silicone."  Well, I don't understnad either, but the problem still exists.  I work in the health care profession and have to wear gloves, latex are definately easier to wear thoughout the day as opposed to the non latex available.  I mention this only because I have problems with many latex gloves and can only wear certain brands.  I have come to learn that I am not allergic to latex, but the chemicals used in the manufacturing of the latex and whether I can wear the gloves depends on how complete the rinsing is done during the manufacturing process.  I have to wonder if the same situation exists with the manufacturing of silicon.  My knowledge is less in this area.  I have found my best relief with the Resmed Mirage Liberty Mask.  This one my skin seems to accept.  My search for a full face mask still continues and it doesn't help that I am told I have a hard to fit face: narrow nose, receeded chin and believe it or not slippery hair! Just finding a full face mask that does not leak is difficult. Resmed Mirage Quattro gave good relief and fit well, but burned my nose so bad the skin was open for 3 months.  I hope you find relief in a mask that does not burn.  Maybe the the Mirage Liberty mask would work for you too.  I hope so!  Good Luck!!

    Re: allergy to silicone

You may want to give RemZzzs CPAP mask liners a try. We've had many, many people find relief from silicone allergies using RemZzzs. They act as a barrier between the mask and skin. Check out our "Real Stories" section to read just a sample of some users who have found relief from skin irritation and erosion from repeated contact with the mask skirt. We are being carried by a fast growing list of medical supply companies. You can also do a search for "allergy to cpap mask" on Bing.com to find another forum (Sleep Foundation) where users report very good results. I hope that you find an answer for your husband.

    Blessings,

    Nathan
