I believe I may have an allergy to the material on my mask.

I believe I may have an allergy to the material on my mask.  I am getting a rash and a redness where ever the form of the mask contacts the skin of my face.

It fits over my nose and I have a rash around the shape of the mask and at the plastic cushion on the forehead piece.

Has anyone else ever had this and what did you do for it. I don't get in to see the Sleep Specialist for a few weeks yet.

I was hoping someone on here my have had some experience with this and have some suggestions.

    Thank you very much,

Thank you for contacting CPAP Supply USA.COM

Developing redness in the area of the CPAP mask is not uncommon.

Most masks are made from silicone now, not latex.  I always recommend wiping off your mask daily.  Wash it in a mild detergent or if you have sensitive skin, try washing it in baby shampoo.

Sometimes masks react with facial oils so daily washing is important.  If you are using some type of facial creams, the mask may be reacting with the cream.

Another thought, if you do not  use a full face mask, you may want to try nasal pillows.  I do not recommend pillows if you are on a pressure over 14 cms.  Check our website, www.cpapsupplyusa.com  for several types of nasal pillow systems such as the Resmed Swift or Fischer/Payckal Opus.

Respironics has a new mask out  if you  wear a full face mask called the Fit Life., also on our website.  This mask has worked great for many people, allows you the benefit of a full face mask put does not come in contact with your actual face.

Also, Remzzs makes a liner for several masks than helps to absorb facial oils and can help with redness.

I feel sure that one of these suggestions will provide you the help you need.

Please contact us again if we can be of further help.
