    Secretions

I have used a cpap for 8-9 yrs.  It is the same machine.  I have trouble with thick secretions after awakening in the morning.  Is that because the machine doesn't have a humidifier?

I cannot honestly answer this with any certainty.  Having said that, I think that having no humidifier would be the culprit, I base this on the fact that my machine does have a humidifier, and I have one of the masks that blows right into your nose, and I have never had secretions.  Hope that helps.

I recommend all CPAP/BIPAP users use a humidifer.  The air from the PAP machine is dry.  Normally your nose can warm and hmidify the aair you breathe.  However using CPAP makes your nose have a lot more air to humidify.  The result is usually dryness of the nose and throat.

Just a reminder, most insurances will allow you to have a new CPAP every 5 years.  I suggest you get a nice new CPAP with the intergrated heated humidifer.  PLease contact me if we can help you with this.

    Re: Secretions

We have received a lot of information in references to the side effects of CPAP machines and how they can be stopped or alleviated... a major side effect chronic congestion and increased mucus production is due to the fact that your body, when coming in contact with air not at the desired humidity level, begins to increase mucus production to compensate for the loss moisture being received the lungs. Most, if not all, of this problem can be eliminated using a good heated humidifier. I agree with Debbie, get a new machine with upgraded features and an integrated heated humidifier - it will make a HUGE difference! Good luck...
