Most CPAP masks require threading straps through buckles, adjusting both sides evenly, and checking the seal in a mirror. If you live alone or have limited dexterity, setup can take longer than it should — and getting it wrong means leaks all night.
You find a good seal, fall asleep, and then roll over. The mask shifts, the seal breaks, air starts leaking, and you wake up. Traditional strap-based headgear loosens with movement and can't adapt to pressure changes.
Full face masks and bulky nasal masks block your line of sight. If you like to read or watch TV before falling asleep, you either skip the mask until the last second or deal with restricted vision.
Masks with six or seven components make daily cleaning tedious. Parts get lost, reassembly takes time, and the whole process discourages people from cleaning as often as they should.
Most masks use a single cushion type. If it doesn't work for you, you buy a completely different mask — new headgear, new frame, new cost.
